Esther Oline Tibke, the daughter of Danish immigrants, Andrew and Petrine (Gronkjar) Pedersen, was born February 7, 1922 on a farm near Lake Norden, South Dakota. They moved to the Bryant community when she was six weeks old. She was baptized in the Danish Lutheran Church at Lake Norden and confirmed in the Bryant Lutheran Church.

She attended all 8 grades at Garfield #5 School. Esther graduated as valedictorian from Bryant High School in 1939. Encouraged by her father to continue her education, she received her two year Educational Certificate from Dakota Wesleyan University in 1941. Esther then worked for the Hamlin County Agricultural Association and then for the state office in Huron.

After additional education and training at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, she taught international Morse Code and Communication Procedure at the Sioux Falls Air Base. She married Howard Tibke in 1943 in Portland, Oregon where she worked in the office of the Kaiser Shipbuilding Company.

Moving back to South Dakota, Esther began her teaching career of 38 years. She taught at Dixon #3, Ramona, Lake Norden, Bryant and Watertown. While teaching, she continued her education, receiving her BA degree from Huron College, and finally her MA degree from SDSU in 1978.

Esther was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer (40 years), Retired Teachers Organization, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Elks Wives and Widows, Cattail Crossings Women's Golf League, Dakota 80, and numerous bridge and pinochle groups. She was also a volunteer at Prairie Lakes Hospital and Jenkins for many years.

Esther was always proud of her Danish heritage. Dane was her first language and she continued to speak it, especially visiting her cousins in Denmark in her three trips there.

She enjoyed reading, movies, cross word puzzles, scrabble, and golf until age 83.

Esther is survived by
