Notater:
. I had old picture from my grandmother's photo album, simply marked "Marie" on the back. My grandmother did not know who it was, but thought it had come from her mother-in-law's collection of pictures. Her mother-in-law was Martha Christoffersen Larsen, of Newell, Iowa. I was so pleased to find the almost identical photo on your website, identified as Marie Christoffersen Jensen--sister to my great-grandmother Martha Christoffersen Larsen! Martha emigrated to the United States in 1872, first to Illinois (where she married my great-grandfather Peder Larsen of Aalborg) and then to Newell, Buena Vista County, Iowa, where they lived the rest of their lives.
Emigration: registered Mar. 11, 1872 i København--destination Chicago, Illinois (she came over with a group of about 25 young men and women from Thisted)
Mar. 5, 1909 MRS. MARTHA LARSEN Mrs. Martha Larsen died at her home in Newell on Monday afternoon, Feb. 22, 1909, aged 56 years, 6 months and 19 days. Mrs. Larsen was born in Thisted, Denmark, Aug. 3, 1852. She came to this country in 1870 and made her home in Kankakee, Illinois. Here she was married to Peter Larsen in 1872. To their union were born eight children, all of whom are living with the exception of one daughter, Susie, whose death occurred about two months ago. Later the family moved to Alta, Iowa, where they remained about two years and then moved to Newell and have since resided in this vicinity. About seven years ago Mrs. Larsen suffered a severe attack of rheumatism and has never been in good health since that time. Her sunny disposition proved a tower of strength to her throughout the years of her suffering and her wonderful patience was one of the indications of a fine, noble character. In her death the surviving husband and children are deprived of the companionship of a kind and affectionate wife and mother. Funeral services Wednesday afternoon were conducted by Rev. L. Thompson at both the home and at the Danish Baptist church. The MIRROR joins many friends in extending sncere sympathy to the bereaved family. From the Buena Vista County death records: cause of death chronic endocarditis.
