Marie G. Pedersen, age 90, of Watertown, South Dakota passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Funeral services were Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown with Father Joe Forcelle as celebrant. Mary Wika was the organist with Maddy Gohn and Judy Everson as soloists. Interment was at Danish Cemetery, rural Lake Norden, South Dakota.

Pallbearers were her grandchildren, Kris Gohn, Kim Gullickon, Jacque Flick, Brooke Vigness, Erica Lehmkuhl, Anthony Pedersen, Brittany Pedersen, Kaitlin Pedersen and Kelli Pedersen.

Marie Goulda Pedersen was born on November 18, 1920 to John J. and Goulda R. (Hoffman) Theisen in Erwin, South Dakota. She graduated from Erwin High School in 1939. She attended Notre Dame College in Mitchell, and General Beadle College in Madison, South Dakota. After receiving her teaching certificate she taught school in Cresbard, DeSmet and Yankton, South Dakota from 1939 to 1945. Marie married Edgar Pedersen on November 15, 1945 after Edgar returned from serving during WWII in the United States Army. They lived and farmed in the Erwin area with Marie returning to teach in 1964. Later on she continued her education by receiving a Bachelor of Science at Huron College. She taught for the Lake Preston School from 1964 to 1984 serving as elementary principal during her last years in education. Marie had a passion for everything she did, especially education. She touched the lives of many students and enjoyed the conversations with former students regarding their success. Edgar and Marie left the farm in 1985 moving to Watertown. The couple spent 14 years wintering in Mesa, Arizona.

Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bryant and then joined Immaculate Conception Church after moving to Watertown. She was a member of Watertown Human Service Board, Erwin Legion Auxiliary, Prairie Lakes Adult literacy, Red Hat Ladies, and Catholic Daughters of America.

Marie enjoyed spending time with family, visiting with her friends at Condo #3, gardening and playing Bridge. She enjoyed volunteering for Prairie Lakes Hospital, Same Day Surgery, Adult Literacy and the Golden Living Center in Watertown.

Marie was a special person that loved life, loved people and was immensely proud of her family. She had high expectations of herself, her family and others. She struggled the last few years with serious medical conditions but never lost her care and concern for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Orval and Jim Theisen; and sister, Maxine Ray.

Marie is survived by her husband, Edgar of Watertown, SD; her children, John (Dianne) Pedersen of Pierre, SD, Jeanne (Jim) Thompson of Salt Lake City, UT, Roland (Debi) Pedersen of Sioux Falls, SD, and Jerry (Kathy) Pedersen of Dallas, TX; her sisters, Arlene Gomer of Watertown, SD and Rose Lynn Sullivan of Spokane, WA; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
