Obituary for Gunhild R. Dransfeldt
Obituary for Gunhild R. Dransfeldt; born 1 Dec 1918.

May 28, 2016: Mrs. Gunhild Dransfeldt (nee Kragelund)
emigrated from Denmark with her parents at the age of 5,
and settled in the Cherry Creek Valley where she lived the rest of her life.

Throughout her young life, she lived at many historic farms throughout the area, including the Twenty Mile House, Seventeen Mile House, Hawkey House, and the Little Place (site of the present Parker Historical Park). She attended the Parker School and graduated in 1936, then went on to Barnes Business College. Upon graduation from Barnes, she got a job with a trucking company as an office manager/secretary.

She married Fred Dransfeldt on January 7, 1940 and took up residence at the Dransfeldt Farm at the old town site of Melvin (currently Cherry Creek State Park).

Their daughter JoAnn Yvonne was born December 30th, 1940.
It was there that she became more active with the Grange while taking on the life of mother and homemaker as well as the extras that it took to be a farm wife. She produced a few plays at the old Elitch Gardens as part of the Grange, and won awards for them.
The Dransfeldt Farm was condemned by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1950 to build Cherry Creek Reservoir, and the Dransfeldts purchased a 320 acre dairy farm in Parker, CO.
Mrs. Dransfeldt continued with her involvement in the Grange, and was also an active member of the Douglas County Democratic Party, Garden Club, Parker Area Historical Society, and Cherry Creek Valley Historical Society (charter member). When her husband Fred helped found the Parker Volunteer Fire Department, she tirelessly helped with fundraisers and meals. When the Parker community worked together to construct the Community Building, she worked alongside other farm wives to prepare meals for the volunteers.
In the mid-1970s, the Dransfeldts switched from a dairy farm to raising beef cattle, investing in a herd of Herefords. They continued raising Herefords until construction began to extend Lincoln Avenue from I-25 to Parker Rd, when they sold the herd and "retired." They continued to be heavily involved in the Parker community, helping to organize and finance the first bank in Parker, the Bank of the West.

Fred passed away in 1993, and Gunhild purchased a home in the Chenango development, which was built on what was her mother's cow pasture. She continued her community involvement, opening the Glitzy Glitz Girls clothing boutique with her daughter, and joining the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce, the Parker Chamber of Commerce, and the Parker Women's Leads Club. She continued to participate in community events, and one year was named Grand Marshall of the Parker Country Festival parade.
She loved to travel, and later in her life, she returned to Denmark for the first time and met many of her relatives there, and visited the town of Dransfeld in Germany, where she was warmly welcomed. She is remembered as a community leader, loving mother and grandmother, lead foot in little white moccasins, gambler extraordinaire, wicked card player, generous and irreverent with an infectious smile and laugh. She could be a pistol and a pill, and scary as hell. She was also sweet and caring, industrious, resourceful and creative. A truly remarkable woman who lived a truly remarkable life.
