Jens A. Petersen, 87, of Dannebrog died last Thursday morning at St. Paul Hospital.
Services were Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Rev. Irvin Briese officiated. Burial was in Loup Fork Cemetery near Boelus with military honors at graveside.
Visitation was Sunday at the Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials were suggested to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog.
Mr. Petersen was born March 25, 1896, in the Cry Creek area near Dannebrog, the son of Peder and Dusine Olsen Petersen. He received his early education in rural Dist. 62 and grew to manhood on the family farm.
In 1918, he entered the Army serving in France for one year during World War I. After his discharge, he returned to the Dry Creek area where he farmed.
On Jan. 6, 1926, he was united in marriage to Martha Cristofferson at Fremont. The couple made their home in the Dry Creek area until their retirement. He and his wife entered a St. Paul care home in 1979.
He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Dannebrog and a member of Mickelsen-Larkowski American Legion Post NO. 241.
He is survived by his wife of St. Paul; one son, Albert of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Ted of Dannebrog and Carl of LeMesa, Calif.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
